Fall is just around the corner and that may have you looking ahead to cooler temperatures, gatherings with friends, and end of year holidays. But the leaves aren’t the only things that change in the Fall…styles and trends start to change, as well.
If you are looking to give your home a refresh or update this Fall, here are three Fall furniture trends we love:
We often think of Spring as bringing in a breath of fresh air, but this Fall, it’s the clean and refreshing look and feel of natural fabrics that are in for home fashion.
“I suggest using wools, cotton, linen, alpaca, or leather in your design scheme. These materials are healthy, cleanable, breathable and they age beautifully.”Liz Caan of Liz Caan & Co
Items that are crafted from nature or help us be closer to it in our homes are more sought after this year. With the waning summer, many are looking to bring the outside in through natural, organic materials (like the bamboo we use in our furniture) to feel a deeper connection with the planet.
“For 2019, there is greater interest in biophilia–emphasizing the relationship between humankind and nature, and the connections between the two. Natural, organic materials–such as wood floors, stone, and daylight and plant life–remind us of the exterior and brings the outside and nature, in. We are machine- and technology-driven society, but nostalgic about past processes and handiwork, so opportunities for custom millwork and crafted materials are very important.”Angie Lee of FXCollaborative
Sustainable, Handmade Pieces
That relationship with the planet continues to the ethics of the items we are considering for our homes. Using sustainable materials [link to Sustainability page] that we know are responsible for the environment are a growing trend.
“Items made by hand using sustainable materials like jute, rice paper, and clay will be in, in 2019. We see people needing these grounding elements in their homes as a way to feel more in touch with the earth and their roots.”Kristen Peña of K Interiors
In addition to the above, industry professionals are raving about light wood floors, statement walls, accent colors, bold backsplashes, and mixed metal accents.
As we prepare our homes for Fall and beyond, adding a touch of nature will help us keep connected with the outside world as we move more indoors.
